Chameleon Restaurant

27/11/2015 by tapastrail@gmail.com

Indonesia heaven in Dublin.

This month saw the Tapas Trail Dublin visit the Chameleon Restaurant. In 1994 Carol opened the doors to this atmospheric den of culinary Indonesian delights. With Kevin by her side this chameleon’s colors have all turned to gold. Take a break from the grey skies and rain and kick back in this oasis of spicy, friendly charm.

I was first attracted when I heard the words “Asian tapas” plates and the chance to wash it all down with   . Chameleon also has a selection of set menus of Indonesian dishes. Your eyes run across the menu in delight. You just don’t know what to choose. Pork belly “Fiery Kimchi”, “The Komodo”, “The Bali Tafel” I want them all. They light tea light candles under a hot plate in the middle of the table after you’ve ordered. then you wait with anticipation.

The tastiest steamed buns in Dublin are here,

I have heard this quote so many times so we just had to try em’ Well are they the best steamed buns you ask? Well, they’re the best I’ve had in Dublin. They are as white as a Geisha‘s skin the and the delicious filling is her lipstick adding color and a world of texture. The setting inside is like stepping back in time. Low lighting, deep purple painted walls and Dublin is a hundred miles away, sit back and relax it’s Indonesian time.

The wantons were crispy, salty and packing a punch of flavor. The short beef ribs are to die for. The cooking time is a “minimum of six hours” Kevin tells us with a beaming smile. The slow cooking time helps the protein turn to a tender, sweet, blackened feast of messy heavenly joy.

I love their room upstairs, it’s so atmospheric. Sit on the low tables and cousins it instantly makes you feel at home. Chameleon is a perfect place for a date or a romantic meal with your other half but also for a catch up with friends you can nibble away with. Their waiting staff are attentive and helpful and will guide you through the menu. They surely deserve all the awards they have won. Sampling a selection of small dishes on the Tapas Trail Dublin gives you a fantastic insight into Indonesian cuisine. You’ll just have to try it for yourself.

Hopefully see you on our next Tapas Trail
