Tapas Trail recommended by Create Your Night
If you’ve ever joined us on our Tapas Trail you’ll know we put in a lot of effort to make it a very special evening of amazing food and drinks. And now, we’ve been recommended as one of the most amazing experiences in Hotel Direct’s Dublin Twitter Guide!
Hotel Direct are a hotel booking website featuring many of the city’s best hotels. So, if you’re visiting Dublin and looking for somewhere to stay, it’s worth taking a look at their site as they often have some great discounts.
One of the things that sets Hotel Direct apart is that they are always on the lookout for new and exciting things to do in and around Dublin, especially if those things are unique or special in some way. They recently teamed up with Create Your Night, which runs one of the top Dublin Twitter accounts (@DublinNightsOut), that provides information about upcoming events and reviews of places to go which help their followers enjoy their days and nights out around Dublin/Ireland.
Create Your Night is a great website if you are planning a wild night out on the town. They arrange stag and hen parties in Dublin and will tailor your night to suit your tastes with everything from clubbing preference and music taken into consideration. Their twitter account is a great resource if you live in Dublin, but it’s also dedicated to helping tourists find something to do other than visiting the local tourist hotspots.
Needless to say, we are very pleased to be on their radar. Here at Tapas Trail we believe we offer one of the best experiences in Dublin and it’s great to find out that Hotel Direct agrees!

In developing countries, blindness takes away so much more than vision. It can impede your ability to gain an education. It can prevent you from finding employment. It can lead you and your family into a life of poverty.
39 million people worldwide are blind — yet 80% are suffering needlessly. Their condition could be prevented or cured. Orbis is an international non-profit organisation fighting blindness in developing countries, where a colossal 90% of the blind reside.
With a focus on teaching and training, Orbis is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of blindness in the developing world.Together with local partners, Orbis is providing quality eye care and strengthening local health systems in hospitals, medical schools and outreach clinics. Orbis is working towards a future where every community in the world has equal access to quality eye care and no one goes needlessly blind.
Thirteen year old Asegedech, who lives with her family in southern Ethiopia, had been suffering with severe trachoma for over two years. Initially her mother took her to a traditional healer which only made her condition worse. While many children her age went off to school each day, Asegedech was forced to stay at home as she was in excruciating pain and her vision was so poor. Trachoma roughens the inside of the eyelids, so for Asegadech, every blink felt like sandpaper rubbing the eye.
One day, an Orbis-trained eye care worker was visiting Asegedech’s village and noticed her weeping, sore eyes. Asegedech was immediately prescribed an antibiotic, which she collected from her local health centre in a nearby town. At the health centre she was aided by public nurse named Tsehay, who had received eye care training from Orbis.
Thanks to the support of our most generous donors who help fund eye health training programmes in southern Ethiopia, Asegedech was finally treated for trachoma, she is no longer in pain and she has returned to school to recieve the education that every child deserves.
Women and girls are three times as likely to be affected by trachoma because of exposure via their children and often have to stop work, risking their livelihood and independence.
Orbis identifies and trains people in local communities, including teachers, to look out for the signs of eye disease. We support the mass distribution of Zithromax – an antibiotic that can treat the early stages of infection. It cost just 15 cent to distribute the antibiotic to treat Asegedech.
Please support our Incredible Women and you can help give the gift of sight to another child. You can help train another eye care worker, who will help children like Asegedech. You can create a world free from avoidable blindness.
By supporting Orbis you are not only saving a person’s sight, you’re giving them their future back.

Tapas Trail Dublin – Saturday 21/06/2014
The sun was splitting the sky on one of those rare days in Dublin city when you feel like you could be anywhere else in the world. Maybe sitting in a cafe somewhere in the south of France or indeed some place in northern Italy, the sun warming the concrete and the mood of the people as the stroll around the streets. That’s what it felt like sitting out side Wallaces’ Enoteca delle Langhe resturant in Dublin’s Italian quarter, where our first Tapas Trail Dublin tour began.
The group started gathering slowly from around 13:30 excited for the tour to begin at 14:00 the group chatted eagerly together. We were delighted to be Joined by Keeley and Laura from www.getrealirishtours.com who had kindly agreed to do a write up for us on their website and social media accounts. @Getrealirishtou
Today we were also joined by May Geraghty and her friends Clare, Gillian and Fiona who met in collage and have remained friends for many years. Some old friends of ours from our travels across Australia made an appearance too. It was really great to see Keiran and Deidre and Andrew who are to be married later on this year.
From the Jeanie Johnston Tall ship crew we hand Niamh, Kim and Laura Ann-Moore one of the head tour guides. www.jeaniejohnston.ie
Richard Martin was their tour guide today and opened the tour by explaining how the tour would work. We would take the group from the Italian Quarter across the Liffey and into the heart of Dublin’s old city. Our first stop was to be La Dolce Vita Wine Bar – “The Sweet Life” and no sweeter place will you find. The owner Riccardo welcomed us with open arms literally shaking my hand and hugging me as I walked through the door. This Wine Bar is the essence of a bohemian relaxed lifestyle.
Leaving La Dolce Vita we strolled through the markets towards Dublin Castle the scenic route to get to Georges St. and our second stop Havana Tapas Bar. This venue originally opened in Camden Market in 2001. . . . the first tapas bar in Dublin. Since that time, many other tapas bars have opened in Dublin and across Ireland and the tapas concept has become more and more popular. From the very first day we opened, our primary mission was to combine the most authentic Spanish ingredients with the finest locally-sourced produce…to create the freshest and tastiest tapas.
In 2005, Havana Tapas Bar moved to their new city centre premises in Georges Street ….. but they have never waivered in their fundamental mission. They continue their revolutionary struggle, as always, to deliver the most authentic tapas in a friendly and relaxed environment … for all the people !! Viva la revolución !!
Our final stop was Zaragoza, which left every one on the tour very impressed! The introduction to Zaragoza was fantastic with Daragh and Ed, who both welcomed our tours with open arms. Delicious Tapas awaiting each person on our group, which included three of their signature dishes, you will have to join us on the next Tapas Trail to see how yummy they are for yourself!
Since opening in 2013, Zaragoza has received a great reputation for fantastic Spanish Tapas in such an open and friendly atmosphere. Also just to note Thurs/Fri & Sat Zaragoza does offer live music, which is an added bonus for our Tapas Trail tours!
